Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church Newellton took place June 10-14, 2024. Our theme this year was The Great Jungle Journey from Answers In Genesis. The children went on an amazing jungle cruise stopping at seven ports of call – the seven C’s of History.
Each day, we stopped at one of these ports during our Bible study time. On day one, we stopped at Creation and learned all about how God created the world in just six days. On day two, our stops were Corruption and Catastrophe where we learned how sin entered the world and how God became so angry with man’s sin that He sent a global flood. On day three, we navigated our cruise toward Confusion and learned how God confused the languages at the Tower of Babel because of man’s disobedience. This was also Backwards day and we all wore our best backwards, mixed-up, confused outfits. On day four, we explored Christ and the Cross and learned how God sent His only Son to die for our sins. Finally, on day five, we stopped at Consummation to learn about how God will make all things new again one day. This was also Jungle Journey day and everyone came dressed for a jungle cruise!
After Bible study, the lessons were reinforced throughout the day through the crafts the children made, science experiments, the games they played at recreation, the songs they learned in music, the children they met in missions, and even the snacks they ate!
In Missions each day, the children learned about a child in need in a different part of the world and the offering that was taken up throughout the week went to benefit the Children’s Hunger Fund. We hope the children will continue to pray for the children they learned about and other children and families like them all over the world who need help.
Of course, we would not be able to spend this time in Christ with the children of our parish without our fantastic and devoted team of VBS volunteers. Thank you to our directors, Tiffany McDonald and Sara Lee (Crafts/Science) as well as Jacquelin Hankins (Missions and Opening/Closing Assembly); Ephraim Hankins, Courtlyn Hemperley, Charlee Bamburg (Music & Opening/Closing Assembly); Hayden McDonald (Recreation & Opening/Closing Assembly); David Hankins and Owen McDonald (Recreation); Linda Tatum, Carmen Kinnett, and Judy Herring (Registration & Verses); Delores Russell and Bobbie McClain (Snacks); Winn Blanche, Brooks Blanche, Don Pennington, and George Cooper (Helpers/Security); Aimee McDonald (Crafts/Science); Lynn Blanche, Tara Blanche, and Bonnie Adcock (Pre-K & Kindergarten); Lauren Bamburg and Hilary Pate (1st - 3rd Grades); Sylvia Cooper and Nenie May (4th - 6th Grades).
We would also like to thank every parent who trusted us with their children this week. We love each of them and hope to see them all again next year!
